Did you know that the German Chocolate Cake isn't from Germany at all? The infamous German Chocolate Cake is actually named after a food scientist, Sam German. Mr. Sam German created a sweet, mild dark baking chocolate bar for the Baker's Chocolate Company in 1852. The company named the chocolate in his honor- Baker's German's Sweet Chocolate. Sales for German's chocolate exploded in 1957, when the German Chocolate Cake first appeared in a Southern newspaper. Over time, the apostrophe was dropped, leaving the false impression that this popular southern cake has German roots!
